Andrzej Hewanicki, BA Dip Arch RIBA

With over 40 years’ experience as a chartered architect, Andrzej has delivered a wealth of successful projects in the UK and abroad, ranging from smaller-scale office and residential to large-scale commercial buildings. For the majority of his career, he has been involved with large scale commercial, transport and infrastructure projects.

Prior to founding DUO, Andrzej was a Practice Designer Administrator at Foggo Associates for 11 years, with the responsibility of running the design and practice-related management across a multi-disciplinary team of 30 professionals. During his time at Foggo’s, Andrzej was involved with the development of Drapers Gardens and Cannon Place in the City of London.

He has also worked for a variety of reputable practices including Arup Associates where he worked on office, retail and station re-developments at Broadgate, Liverpool Street, Finsbury Avenue, Buckingham Palace Road and Triton Square. At Hurley Robertson and Associates, Andrzej led the re-development of the Daily Express building and 120 Fleet Street occupied by Goldman Sachs, as well as producing a competition winning design for the Carpenters Guild of London. While at Swanke Hayden Connell Architects he carried out building appraisals for Lehman Brothers, Jones Lang La Salle and Accenture.

During his career outside the UK, Andrzej completed a cultural centre, concert hall and a car manufacturing plant for Toyota in Turkey, and edibles and pharmaceuticals plants in Lagos, Nigeria. Outside the office, Andrzej is a professional practice tutor at Westminster University, supporting students through their RIBA Part III;  external examiner at Kent and Portsmouth Universities; and an examiner for the Architects Registration Board (ARB). He is also a UK adaptation assessor for the ARB and a member of their competency standards group.

Witek Hewanicki, BA Dip Arch RIBA

As co-founder of DUO, Witek manages the day-to-day running of the practice, leading on design visualisation and modelling, photography and business development. His fresh, inventive approach to conceptual design and technical issues complements Andrzej’s experience.

Three years after establishing DUO, Witek juggled running a practice with completing his professional studies; graduating from the London Metropolitan University in 2016. During his year of professional practice in 2009-10, Witek worked alongside Andrzej at Foggo Associates and was involved in the developments at Drapers Gardens and Cannon Place.

Witek’s experience has also taken him abroad, having studied in Vienna under renowned late British Architect Will Alsop on the Erasmus Exchange Programme at the ‘Technische Universitat’, and by lending his design expertise to the Loki Hostels chain in South America, whilst on a sabbatical.

Witek looks after DUO’s network of consultants and contractors and coordinates collaboration opportunities to continue striving for excellence in design and management of projects.
