Wimbledon 02

Alterations and extensions to an Edwardian period house located in Wimbledon, SW19 on a sloping site in a conservation area. It is one of five pairs of two-storey semi-detached houses on the street.

As a result of our work to the first house in Wimbledon, we were invited to submit proposals for a second house on the street.

Planning consent was obtained to maximise the potential of the property, taking advantage of the sloping site to form a new lower-ground level, two-storey rear extension and loft conversion. The property was in such poor condition that it was extensively stripped out leaving only external walls.

To take advantage of the sloping site, the basement excavation was undertaken to form a lower ground level accommodating a bedroom, bathroom and an impressively large open plan recreation room with bi-folding doors opening into the garden.

The ground floor has been re-configured to provide a reception room and to the rear a kitchen/dining room with an external terrace overlooking the rear garden. The first floor accommodates a master bedroom with walk-in dressing room and an en-suite, two bedrooms and a family bathroom. The second floor houses two guest bedrooms and a bathroom. In line with the requirements of a conservation area, the design maintains the overall character of the existing exterior while the interior has been developed with modern living in mind.
